Articles of Incorporation (Schedule 1)
1. The
objects for which the Association is established are:
a) To promote the welfare of Jamaica’s poor in any manner which now or hereafter may be deemed by law to be charitable,
b) To improve the health, social and educational conditions of the poor throughout Jamaica through the collection ad distribution of food, clothing, education and any other aids and to utilize any other means which shall further such purposes,
c) To improve the physical and material conditions of care institutions throughout Jamaica,
d) To encourage and promote a greater degree of consciousness and responsiveness towards young people of Jamaica whether at the national or community level,
e) To provide counseling sessions and the like to children, parents and young persons and to organize lectures, seminars, workshops and the like as a medium of promoting the objects of the Association
training development.
2. 2. The Association shall have the following powers which shall be exercised solely in furtherance of the objects of the Association:
a) To raise funds
- by way of voluntary subscriptions, donations, gifts, devices and the like
- through organized fund-raising activities of whatsoever kind
- by way of solicitation from governments, governmental agencies, agencies of the
United Nations or any other multi-lateral or international agencies,
b) To formulate and develop programs and plans aimed generally at improving the quality of life for Jamaica’s poor and to implement such plans and programs whether at the national or community level,
c) To promote and operate playgrounds, camps and any other recreational facilities of teaching facilities for children and young people and to organize recreational and other activities
d) To assess on a continuing basis the need for child care programs, to seek solutions to human problems and to assist in the development of new child care institutions and programs,
e) To develop as fully as possible the financial resources, both governmental and voluntary, required to meet the socio-economic development and service needs of the community and to reduce the number of appeals for financial support for such services
f) To muster community support and commitment for development institutions and programs through a systematic communication program which both speaks and listens to the community,
g) To manage the Association operations effectively and to offer assistance to child care agencies, institutions and the providers of child care wishing to improve their management skills
h) To borrow or raise money for any of the purposes of the Association on such terms as may seem expedient and to secure repayment thereof or the satisfaction of any obligation or liabilities of the Association in such manner as the Association shall think fit and in particular by mortgage of or charge upon any part of the Association’s property or by the issue of debentures or debenture stock charged upon all or any part of,
i) To do all such things as are incidental of conductive to the attainment of the above objects or any of them.
